China's leading actress has called for greater effort to end the illegal ivory trade, which experts say is fueling a rise in the killing of elephants across Africa.

Li Bingbing – who is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme – visited Kenya recently to see at first hand the impact of poaching on the elephant population and the local economy.

A UN study released earlier this year said large-scale seizures of ivory destined for Asia have doubled since 2009 – a trend that wildlife experts say must urgently be reversed.

Bryan Coll joined Li Bingbing on her visit to Kenya's Samburu National Reserve.
