With the frequency and intensity of drought on the increase in the Horn of Africa, countries in the region are being urged to build their resistance to withstand potential disasters.
That's one of the messages coming out of the Global Platform for Disaster Reduction, held last week in Geneva.
Patrick Maigua covered the conference and spoke to Mathewos Hunde Tulu of the Intergovernmental Agency on Development (IGAD) which works on food security and environmental protection in East Africa.
He said countries, such as Ethiopia, are taking steps to reduce their vulnerability to drought.
