The Second International Jazz Day is being commemorated on April 30th 2013 in Istanbul, Turkey.
UNESCO proclaimed International Jazz Day in November 2011 and five months later, the first celebration was held at United Nations headquarters in New York.
According to UNESCO, the day honours jazz's virtues as an educational tool, as a vehicle for peace, unity, dialogue, and for enhanced cooperation between peoples.
Before going to Istanbul to participate in the commemoration, jazz musician Marcus Miller talked to UN Radio's Derrick Mbatha about the significance of the day.
