UNAMID Nepalese soldiers provide security to UNAMID staff in the field

The United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) is investigating an incident in which one of its peacekeepers was killed and two injured on Friday.

UNAMID says that unidentified assailants shot the peacekeepers at their team site near Muhajeria town in East Darfur.

The mission is working in coordination with the government of Sudan to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

UNAMID stresses that any attack on international peacekeepers is a crime under international law.

The town of Muhajeria has been a scene of fighting recently between Sudanese government forces and armed rebels.
