UN chief urges North Korea to refrain from "provocative measures"Listen /
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has urged authorities in North Korea to stop challenging the authority of the Security Council by conducting another nuclear test.
The Secretary-General spoke to reporters in The Hague where he attended a meeting on chemical weapons.
Mr. Ban said he is concerned about the current rising tension in and around the Korean Peninsula as the authorities in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) were reportedly preparing for a nuclear test.
“I am aware of the reports about possible preparations for a nuclear test by the DPRK. I don’t have any specific information about it at this time. As I have already stated this morning here, I have been repeatedly urging the DPRK to refrain from taking any further provocative measures." (29")
The Secretary-General said any nuclear tests would be in violation of Security Council resolutions.
