Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the killing of Somalia's Deputy State Attorney last week.

According to reports, Ahmed Malim Sheikh Nur was gunned down in the capital, Mogadishu on Friday.

In a statement issued late on Monday, Secretary-General Ban expresses his sincere condolences to Mr. Nur's family.

The Secretary-General expresses his deep concern that recent attacks in Mogadishu appear to target the judicial officials and the legal system as a whole.

He says he is confident that such criminal acts will not undermine efforts to strengthen the rule of law in Somalia.

The Secretary-General reiterates the commitment of the United Nations to support and assist the Federal Government of Somalia, its institutions and the Somali people.

Gerry Adams, United Nations.
