African countries are being urged to maximize their abundant natural and agricultural resources to boost growth, jobs and economic transformation.

A new report co-authored by the United Nations says leveraging the continent's commodities could help in addressing youth unemployment, poverty and gender disparities.

While African countries are growing, they have been unable to fulfil their industrial potential, according to the report which was launched by the UN Economic Commission for Africa and the African Union Commission.

It says the question is not whether Africa can industrialize by ignoring its commodities, but rather how can it use them to add value, new services and technological capabilities.
