Secretary-General encouraged by efforts to resume political dialogue in GuineaListen /
The UN Secretary-General has welcomed progress on the resumption of the political dialogue in Guinea.
In a statement on Wednesday issued by his spokesperson, Ban Ki-moon said he was encouraged by the signing this week of a declaration by political leaders in the West African country.
The joint declaration calls on all political parties to refrain from violent demonstrations and confirms the parties' determination to resolve outstanding issues through peaceful and negotiated solutions.
The UN Secretary-General also welcomed a statement by President Alpha Condé expressing his readiness to implement all necessary measures in efforts to guarantee the transparency and credibility of the electoral process.
Last month, several people died and hundreds more were injured in protests related to the polls.
