Sabrina Iyadede uses music to reflect on the genocide in Rwanda

Artist/Songwriter Sabrina Iyadede

A memorial ceremony to commemorate the Rwandan genocide was held on Monday, 15 April 2013 at UN Headquarters in New York.

One of the participants at the ceremony was artist/songwriter Sabrina Iyadede. She was born in Rwanda and left in 1994 when she was a young girl, moved to Belgium and now lives in New York.

In this piece prepared by Beng Poblete-Enriquez, Sabrina showcases a range of genres, from jazz to world music with Mr. Steve Wood on double bass and Ms. Lollise Mbi and Parris Bailey on vocals.
