Monaco is helping to contribute to environmental sustainability:BanListen /
Environmental sustainability and how the United Nations is working with partners such as Monaco to achieve it was the subject of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's address to the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco on Wednesday .
Monaco may be small, but its heart is large, said the Secretary-General as he addressed a gathering at the Oceanographic Museum in the country.
The country, he said, is inhabited by 36,000 people from 120 different nationalities, all of whom peacefully co-exist together.
This is enabling the country to lead the world into a sustainable 21st century.
For example, Monaco's smart policies on encouraging electric vehicles are pointing the way toward a low-carbon economy.
In addition, said the Secretary-General, Monaco is also a generous host to important environmental work being conducted by the International Atomic Energy Agency and the International Hydrographic Organization.
