However, the opposite has happened, according to the author of Globalization and Development in Sub-Saharan Africa. He says development policies have failed to benefit the continent.

• More than one billion people worldwide depend on forests for their livelihoods. African countries have been sharing their experiences with sustainable forest management at a UN conference underway in Istanbul, Turkey. One of the aims of the conference is to improve forest conservation.

Involving men and boys in promoting gender equality in Mozambique

• Violence against women is a serious problem in Mozambique, according to an activist. The National Coordinator of the Men for Change Network is working to get men and boys involved in promoting gender equality. He says there is need to address the negative impact of masculinity in society.
