Dag Hammarskjöld was installed and took his oath of office on 10 April 1953.

The second Secretary-General of the United Nations died in a plane crash while on mission to the Congo in September 1961.

The United Nations held an event on Wednesday to commemorate 60 years since Dag Hammarskjöld took office.

UN Radio's Beng Poblete-Enriquez prepared this piece using excerpts of the event where Jan Eliasson, the Deputy Secretary-General, served as the master of ceremonies.
