Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet kick-starts the 2nd International Jazz DayListen /
International Jazz Day is celebrated on April 30th. According to the UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the day is designed to raise awareness worldwide about the virtues of jazz as an educational tool, as a vehicle for peace, unity, dialogue and for enhanced cooperation between peoples.
A jazz concert, under the title "Jazz, a language for peace", and featuring the Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet, was held recently to kick-start the day. The musical celebration coincides with the 35th session of the UN General Assembly's Committee on Information (22 April – 2 May 2013).
Beng Poblete-Enriquez prepared excerpts of the concert, heard in this piece. The master of ceremonies is Russell Gloyd who has conducted many symphonic and choral appearances of the Dave Brubeck Quartet.
