• Africa can emerge as a global economic power by using its natural resources to promote industrialization, according to this year's UN report on the continent. The report says the continent has been experiencing rapid economic growth. It says the continent needs to transform its agricultural sector which employs approximately 70 per cent of the workforce.

• A political solution is crucial to end the crisis in Mali, according to the International Crisis Group (ICG). The independent organization which is committed to resolving conflicts around the world issued its report on Mali on Tuesday. It says all the stakeholders must participate in shaping the political future of Mali.

DR Congo hosts over 30,000 refugees from Central African Republic

• Over 30,000 refugees from the Central African Republic have sought shelter in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The UN refugee agency says the DR Congo, which is facing its own enormous problems has opened its borders to the refugees. It is appealing to the international community to support the two troubled African countries.
