Yemenis have opportunity to resolve issues: UN official
Listen /The people of Yemen have a historic opportunity to resolve all the issues in their country.
That's what the UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser on Yemen, Jamal Benomar told Yemenis gathered in Sa'ana on Monday.
In the first meeting in decades, representatives of political parties, religious and social groups began a national dialogue on the country's future.
"Today, we have a historic opportunity to solve all the issues. The continued international and regional support to Yemen enhances this opportunity. You know, of course, that any successful dialogue has to be built on respect for different opinions and the real participation. That means, giving each contribution the right it deserves regardless of its source."
Mr. Benomar said the dialogue has to be transparent and open to all the citizens outside the conference rooms, so they would be able to understand what's happening and contribute to its outcome.
