Women marched to end violence against women around the world

Listen /

Yoo Soon-taek (third from left, in white hat), wife of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, led a "UN Women for Peace" march to mark International Women' Day. Participants included Susan Sarandon (on Mrs. Ban's left), and Monique Coleman (right).

It was a cold, cloudy day in New York with snow/sleet and rain on this Friday, the 8th of March. But neither snow, nor sleet, or rain could discourage these women from marching on the occasion of International Women's Day.

The aim of the rally was to generate a heightened awareness for prevention of violence against women.

Armed with their waterproof coats, boots, umbrella, and a white vest which says "March on March 8", these women rallied on and raised their voices to end violence against women around the world.

Beng Poblete-Enriquez reports.
