Secretary-General congratulates new Chinese President

The UN Secretary-General has written to China's new leader Xi Jinping to wish him every success in leading his country.
According to a statement from his spokesperson, Ban Ki-moon sent a letter to Mr. Xi on Friday congratulating him on his election as President by the National People's Congress.
The statement adds that the Secretary-General welcomes the growing active and constructive role China is playing in world affairs.
Mr. Ban says the country's leading and pioneering role is indispensable for the success of the international community in its common quest to address global challenges such as building durable peace.
