• Women from around the world have gathered at UN headquarters for the annual session of the Commission on the Status of Women. This year's theme is "Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls." An activist from Egypt says violence against women is a serious problem in her country.
UN mission in South Sudan reaches out to communities
• The UN mission in South Sudan is reaching out to communities in Jonglei State to raise awareness about its work. The latest event was in Akuideng Boma Township about 60 kilometres from Bor town. The discussions included the role of community leaders in promoting peaceful co-existence in Jonglei State which has been beset by inter-ethnic conflict.
People with albinism targeted in Tanzania
• There's an increase in attacks against people with albinism in Tanzania. The Office of the UN Human Rights Commissioner strongly condemns these attacks in which victims are dismembered alive. It calls on the authorities to take stronger measures to halt these crimes and address the underlying discrimination against people with albinism.
