A UN independent expert is calling for better protection of humanitarian facilities following the recent deadly car bomb attack at the largest camp for internally displaced people (IDPs) in Pakistan.

Chaloka Beyani, UN Special rapporteur on the human rights of IDPs, condemned the 21 March attack at Jalozai camp in north-west Pakistan which killed 10 civilians and an aid worker and injured many others.

He said the "humanitarian nature" of the camp must be maintained and adequate safety arrangements urgently implemented to protect displaced people and the agencies that work with them.

Mr. Beyani urged the Pakistani authorities to strengthen safety measures and improve security arrangements around Jalozai camp, and to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the attack.
