• Hakima is a 13-year old Ugandan girl and a volunteer of the child rights organization Plan International. She is leading child rights initiatives in her school and her community. Hakima attended this year's session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women which is focusing on ending violence against women and girls.
African Union troops provide medical service in Somalia
• Troops serving with the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) are providing health services to Somali civilians. Medics of the Burundian contingent operate an outpatient clinic for the Somali National Army. Displaced Somalis and their children now depend on the medics for health care.
Combined vaccine used to prevent measles and rubella in Rwanda
• As part of its ongoing efforts to prevent measles and rubella, Rwanda started a dual vaccine campaign against the diseases on Tuesday. This is the first time that the combined Measles-Rubella vaccine is being used in a developing country. The campaign aims to vaccinate almost 5 million children between 9 and 15 years of age with the combined MR vaccine.
