The issue of North Korea's recent nuclear test took centre stage as the United Nations forum dealing with disarmament issues this week continued its session in Geneva.  Derrick Mbatha reports how representatives of member states criticized the country for conducting the test which contravened UN Security Council resolutions against such action.

UN mission reports decline in civilian casualties in Afghanistan

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) is calling for increased efforts to protect civilians as the number of casualties of the country's ongoing conflict is unacceptable.  A UNAMA report released this week finds more than 2,700 Afghans were killed and another 4,800 injured in 2012, representing a 12 per cent decrease when compared with the previous year.

The Marshall Islands says climate change is a security issue

The Marshall Islands is comprised of 29 coral atolls and five low-lying islands, making it especially vulnerable to rising sea levels. Salt water encroachment and rationing of water in the capital city are already a reality for residents.  Tony deBrum, a government Minister, says for this reason, climate change is a security issue for the Marshall Islands and other Pacific island nations.
