UNESCO chief calls for comprehensive action to harness full power of renewable energyListen /
There's been a call for comprehensive action to harness the full power of renewable energy.
UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, told the Sixth World Future Energy Summit and the International Renewable Energy Ministerial Panel on "Building National Frameworks for Renewable Energy" in Abu Dhabi that "harnessing the full power of renewable energy requires comprehensive, across-the-board action to develop human resources, to build institutional capacity, to promote local innovation and increase scientific knowledge adapted to different contexts and needs.
She said "all of this needs to be supported by an appropriate policy environment", adding that "this is the basis for designing national frameworks that make the most of every country's renewable energy potential".
Director-General Bokova also urged delegates to "promote the knowledge base across the South, while enhancing South-South and North-South-South cooperation on access, efficiency and renewability. She said we must work at the global level, but by adapting policies for local needs, nurturing local capacities".
