Murder of Somali journalist condemned by UN envoyListen /
The top United Nations envoy in Somalia, Dr. Augustine Mahiga, has condemned the murder of a journalist in the Horn of Africa country.
Shabelle radio journalist, Abdihared Osman Adan, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Mogadishu on Friday.
Dr. Mahiga described the incident as "the latest in the series of heinous killings targeting the Somali media community".
Eighteen journalists were killed in Somalia last year alone.
In November President Hassan Sheikh called on the country's Prime Minister to set up a task force to thoroughly and urgently investigate all cases involving the killing of Somali journalists in order to bring those responsible to justice.
The UN envoy in Somalia calls on the Government to expedite the formation of that task force.
Dr. Mahiga says "it's deplorable that the perpetrators continue to enjoy impunity, while the Somali media community continues to be targeted".
