Two people in Cambodia have died from H5N1 avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, since the beginning of 2013.

And two more have become infected. Health authorities in Cambodia say they will step up public awareness campaigns as a result.

"Ongoing public awareness campaigns need to be reinforced through television and radio," said Sok Touch, Director of Cambodia's Communicable Disease Control Department, adding "there is no room for complacency."

Since 2005, 24 people have been infected resulting in 21 deaths, according to the World Health Organization, WHO. Over half of the infections were in children under 14.

There were three recorded cases in 2012, all of them fatal.
