The UN Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) winds down its activities on 31 December, having assisted the country in consolidating stability and building democracy in the wake of major political, humanitarian and security crises. Monica Villela Grayley sat down with Ameerah Haq, head of the UN Department of Field Support in New York, who formerly led the mission, for her recollections.
