More women globally are without jobs than men: ILO

Women around the world face higher unemployment rates than men, according to a new report issued by the International Labour Organization (ILO). The ILO's Global Employment Trends for Women 2012 was produced in collaboration with UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. Derrick Mbatha reports.
UNAMA report says EVAW law needs greater enforcement
While Afghan authorities have achieved progress in implementing the Law of Elimination of Violence against Women, there is still a long way to go before women and girls are fully protected against violence by the law in Afghanistan. That's what a new UN report, issued in early December, says according to UNAMA, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan. The law of Elimination of Violence against Women, the "EVAW" law, as it is called, is designed to bring perpetrators of violence against women to justice.
UN hosts LGBT special event
The United Nations is taking leadership in the fight to end discrimination against lesbian, bi-sexual, gay and transgender, or LGBT, individuals. At an historic meeting on the 11th of December, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, human rights defenders, politicians and international entertainers all voiced their support for the LGBT community.
