Forest Whitaker launches peace organization in South SudanListen /
Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Peace and Reconciliation, announced on Monday that his PeaceEarth Foundation is launching the Youth Peacemaker Network in South Sudan.
The Network is designed to nurture a new generation of leaders in the world's youngest country, the majority of whose population is under the age of 30.
The Network will be developed in strong cooperation with UNESCO'S Juba office, the South Sudan Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and corporate partners.
Mr. Whitaker described the activities of his foundation.
“PeaceEarth is an organization that works in areas of conflict for peace building and community building. We do that through education, through information, through social media. One of our core methods is training. We have a wholistic programme called "Harmonizing Programme," in which we bring individuals together who generally are women to teach them conflict transformation, leadership skills, social media tools and life coaching in regards of how to deal with stress and other issues.”
