Africa has first continental treaty to protect displaced persons

• The African Union Convention on the Protection and Assistance to Internally Displaced Persons has come into force. It comes against the background of concern about the increasing number of IDPs. The Kampala Convention, as it is called, covers displacement from causes that include conflict, natural disasters and climate change.
Kenya: Growing with the flow
• Thousands of poor farmers living on the slopes of East Mount Kenya depend on seasonal rains to water their crops. Excessive logging in that part of Kenya has reduced forest cover and slowed water flow. But now, a pilot project, supported by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is helping to keep water flowing.
New website links Ghanaian Diaspora to their country
• A website has been launched to create links between the three million Ghanaians living abroad and their country's development. The website: www.ghanaiandiaspora.com was launched on Tuesday by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the government of Ghana. The site launch coincided with the establishment of a Diaspora Support Unit based at Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
