Palestinian diplomat welcomes ceasefire agreement with Israel
Listen /A ceasefire agreement has been reached between the Israelis and Palestinians.
The announcement was made in Cairo.
The Permanent Observer of Palestine to the UN Riyad Mansour says they would have liked to reach an agreement earlier which would have saved many civilian lives in the Gaza Strip.
"We tried every thing possible with many friends here and of course, friends in the region, particularly our brothers in Egypt in order to bring an immediate end to this aggression against our people which we condemn in the strongest possible terms. We just have to wait to see the details of this agreement."
Mansour says there's a need to make sure that the provisions of the agreement will be respected and implemented, especially ending the aggression against the people in Gaza.
He also hopes this would allow for the development of an appropriate atmosphere that would lead to the political process allowing the Palestinian people to end the occupation and for the independence of their State.
