South Sudanese airlifted home

• An operation to airlift 1,300 South Sudanese from Khartoum to South Sudan started on Tuesday. The International Organization for Migration says they are part of 40,000 people who moved to open places in 2010 hoping to be transported to South Sudan. According to IOM there are two flights a day transporting the people from Khartoum to South Sudan.

• Cocoa comprises about 70 per cent of exports from Côte d'Ivoire, according to the UN peacekeeping operation in the country (UNOCI). Recently the head of UNOCI toured a cocoa processing factory in the country. He said the commodity, which is used to make chocolate, could also help in creating more jobs in Côte d'Ivoire.

• Deforestation is depriving Kenya millions of dollars a year, according to a report issued on Monday. The report has been jointly compiled by the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). It says alternative sources of livelihoods are needed so that people don't cut down trees to survive.
