Health care worker makes the rounds in Namibia

• Health workers in Namibia provide services to children of the nomadic Ovahimba community. The project has been launched by the government of Namibia and UNICEF as part of the efforts to reduce the number of children who die before their fifth birthday. Thirty four health workers have been trained to reach out to the Ovahimba community.

 

 

Nurse takes care of man with Marburg Haemmorrhagic Fever

WHO helps Uganda contain Marburg Haemorrhagic Fever outbreak

• At least 11 people have died of Marburg Haemorrhagic Fever in Uganda, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The outbreak was first declared about two weeks ago. WHO says 20 cases of the deadly viral disease have been reported in at least five districts of the country.

 

Atlas of Health and Climate launched

Flooding in Burkina Faso

• The World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) have launched The Atlas of Health and Climate. The agencies say that hazards to human health continue to increase as a result of climate change and Sub Saharan Africa is not immune to these dangers. The Atlas illustrates some of the most pressing current and emerging challenges.
