On the occasion of the International Day to Eliminate Violence against Women, Executive Director Bachelet said these days, "There is nothing excusable about violence against women and girls anywhere, at any time. Nothing." The International Day to Eliminate Violence against Women, the 25th of November, is followed by 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence, commemorated every year around the world to raise awareness and trigger action on this pervasive human rights violation.
South Sudan commemorates November 25th, the International Day to End Violence against Women
Hundreds of women, girls and men marched in Juba, South Sudan in late November to commemorate the International Day to End Violence against Women, observed annually on the 25th of November. On the International Day, South Sudan embarked on '16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence’ under a national theme, “Promote Peace at Home, Stop Gender Based Violence and Child Marriage”.
