UN remains centre for harmonizing actions of nations, GA PresidentListen /
The United Nations remains a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations, says Vuk Jeremić the President of the 67th session of the General Assembly.
Mr. Jeremić spoke to reporters for the first time since becoming the President of the Assembly.
He said the general debate which brought world leaders to New York that ended at the beginning of the week was successful.
"I believe it was quite successful, at least from the procedural point of view. We had about 100 heads of state or government. In addition to that (there were) 70 Deputy Prime Ministers or Ministers of Foreign Affairs. They gave speeches. I think that it gives a clear indication that the United Nations remains a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations, to use the words of the UN Charter." (Duration: 24")
Mr. Jeremić recalled that he has chosen 'bringing about adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations by peaceful means" as the overarching theme of the General Assembly debates over the next twelve months.
