UN meeting calls for protection of global biodiversity before it is too late

Representatives from up to 160 countries are meeting in Hyderabad, India, to review progress on a 10-year plan for the planet's biodiversity; that is the various forms of life on Earth such as plants, animals and even microbes.

One of the aims of the conference is to mobilize more resources to implement targets under the plan, which was agreed to in Nagoya, Japan, two years ago.

To find out what's at stake, Dianne Penn spoke on the line to Hyderabad with David Ainsworth, spokesperson at the UN Convention on Biodiversity, the organizers of the meeting.
