• The future of Somalia rests on empowering its large youth population, according the UN Development Programme's 2012 Somalia Human Development Report. The report was launched on the margins of the UN General Assembly's annual debate. It contains a Youth Charter developed by youth representatives from various regions in Somalia as well as from the Diaspora.

Expert calls for more inclusion of indigenous peoples in  Namibia

• Indigenous communities in Namibia demand greater inclusion in decision-making at all levels. That's what was said by the UN independent expert on the rights of indigenous peoples. He says the government does not have a coherent policy to promote the cultures of indigenous peoples in the Southern African country.

Kenya – Greening the Mountain

Mount Kenya

• After decades of excessive logging and reduced water flow, Mount Kenya is becoming green again. Under a government pilot project financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), primary school children have planted thousands of trees. The children are also teaching grownups at home about the importance of trees.
