Syrian failed weekend ceasefire was 'a pause, not a true ceasefire': BrahimiListen /
UN Arab league Joint Special Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi says Syrian government and opposition leaders did not heed his call for a ceasefire over the weekend. Mr Brahimi says what was in effect was a pause in the fighting and not a true ceasefire. Patrick Maigua Reports.
Speaking in Moscow where he held talks with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergie Lavrov, Mr Brahimi said his appeal for a ceasefire had not been heard at the level he had hoped for.
He however said his peace efforts would continue undeterred.
The Joint Special Envoy said the Syrian crisis is getting worse and appealed to the international community to find solution for the crisis.
He called on all parties to the conflict both inside and outside Syria, to help bring the level of violence down, and launch Syria on the road to peace.
Mr Brahimi said there was need for real transition in Syria as in other countries and not cosmetic reforms".
