Situation for children in Syria is "dire": UN officialListen /
The situation of children in some parts of the world has been described by a senior United Nations official as a "nightmare" that must be ended.
The UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, Leila Zerrougui says it is not acceptable that children are paying the heavy price for war.
According to Ms. Zerrougui, there are 52 parties engaged in conflicts which are on the UN's list of shame of those who persistently commit atrocities against children.
She tells UN Radio's Reem Abaza that one area of conflict where children are suffering right now is Syria.
