Secretary-General welcomes Philippines peace agreement
Listen /UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday welcomed the announcement of a peace agreement between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
The Framework Peace Agreement is aimed at ending decades of fighting in Mindanao, South Philippines.

The Secretary-General commended President Benigno Aquino for his vision and courage, as well as the commitment of the MILF leadership, in reaching the landmark achievement.
A number of countries, in particular the Government of Malaysia, he said, had contributed to the success of the peace negotiations.
The Secretary-General expressed his heartfelt wishes for peace and prosperity to the Government and the people of the Philippines and also to the people of Bangsamoro, a new autonomous political entity to be created in Mindanao.
Mr. Ban said the United Nations is ready to support the parties, as needed, in implementing the Framework Peace Agreement.
