The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is writing to the family of Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenage activist who was shot this week. Malala, an advocate for girls' education and winner of the Pakistani government's highest civilian award, was seriously wounded by Taliban gunmen who shot her and two classmates on Tuesday. The Secretary-General paid tribute to the young activist during a panel discussion organized for the day.
New vaccine gives Pakistani children a fighting chance against pneumonia
Pakistan has become the first country in South Asia to introduce a new vaccine that targets a major childhood killer: pneumonia. The initiative brings together Pakistan's Ministry of Health and the GAVI Alliance, a public-private health partnership whose members include the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
