Polio could be eradicated by end of 2013: WHO
Listen /Polio eradication is at a pivotal point, according to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative of the World Health Organization and could be eradicated by the end of 2013.
Since World Polio Day on 24 October last year, the number of new cases of the disease has declined from 467 to 171, according to the Initiative.
WHO is calling for renewed efforts to step up the campaign against polio in order to realize the goal of polio eradication.
UN Radio's Patrick Maigua spoke with Oliver Rosenbauer, Spokesperson for the Initiative, about the history of the campaign and WHO's strategy.
