Ensure social justice for girls: ILOListen /
The Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) has called for measures to ensure that girl children around the world attain social justice and progress.
The call comes ahead of the first ever observance of the International Day of the Girl Child on 11 October.
Gerry Adams reports.
ILO Chief Guy Ryder says long-term gender inequality begins forming at an early age and that that the practice of girls systematically being left behind by virtue of their sex, must end.
He calls for a firm resolve to recommit to the goals of social progress.
If girls are on equal footing with boys, he says, they will be well-prepared, in time, to enter the world of work.
