• Youth unemployment in Africa is more problematic than in many other parts of the world. That's according to Theodoor Sparreboom an economist at the International Labour Organization (ILO). Africa has a high population growth rate and there are millions of young people looking for a job.

UN works to provide better life for former child soldiers

• For former child soldiers, reintegrating into their home communities can be very difficult. The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) is working to assist young people to adopt alternatives and to transition to a better life. A UNICEF Advocate for children and former child soldier himself was recently in the Central African Republic which has faced this problem.

Study analyzes health of migrants from East to Southern Africa

• Thousands of people migrate every year from East Africa, the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region to Southern Africa in search of a better life. The International Organization for Migration, (IOM) says most of the migrants who use smugglers to reach South Africa, face hardships on the way. IOM has launched a study on the health vulnerability of these irregular migrants.
