Yemen: a growing humanitarian crisis

Yemeni carrying food aid package

About 50 million Yemenis are either hungry or on the verge of hunger – that's almost half of the population in Yemen.

That's according to the World Food Programme – WFP.

Child malnutrition rates are among the highest in the world, with most of the children under five years of age, the agency says. Two million children are stunted and one million are acutely malnourished.

To respond to this crisis, WFP is scaling up its operations to assist the Yemeni people.

UN Radio's Patrick Maigua spoke to WFP's Elizabeth Byrs about this growing humanitarian crisis and what is being done to assist these millions of people.
