UN calls for greater accountability to curb human rights violations in Syria

The on-going conflict in Syria and its effect on civilians is one of the key issues on the agenda of the UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva on Monday.

The UN Secretary-General and the UN's human rights chief told those gathered for the two-week meeting that the humanitarian situation in Syria is deteriorating.

They urged the Council to continue to pressure all sides to the conflict to end the fighting and the human rights abuses in the country.
