UN-Arab League envoy visits camp for Syrian refugees in JordanListen /
The situation in Syria is not improving but further deteriorating, said the joint Special Representative of United Nations and the Arab League on Tuesday.
Lakhdar Brahimi spoke during his visit to Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan where he had gone to see first hand the living conditions of the refugees and the work done by UN agencies to help them.
Mr. Brahimi thanked the government and people of Jordan for their generosity.
“The aim of the visit is also to convey the tragedies I saw here and the humanitarian efforts to the international community through the United Nations next week. As for the Syrian issue I’ve said more than once that the situation in Syria is so dangerous. Unfortunately, the situation is not heading towards improvement, but to further deterioration."
The visit to the camp was part of the envoy's first mission to the region to meet with leaders in Syria and neighbouring countries.
