Security Council to hold high-level meeting on Middle East
Listen /As the annual debate continues in the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, the Security Council is preparing for a high-level meeting on the Middle East.
Germany holds the rotating presidency of the Council in September and the country's Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle met with Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Elaraby ahead of the session.
The German Foreign Minister described the changes taking place in the Arab world as "breathtaking" and said that his government wants to support moves towards democracy.
"We will build bridges in this week between countries, between cultures, between religions, between societies. There is no clash of cultures; there is a clash inside cultures. It's a struggle between open-minded and closed-minded, and therefore I think we shouldn't follow any kind of intolerant clichés and stereotypes." (Duration: 33″)
