Burundi's civil war may have ended more than a decade ago, but violence in the country continues, and many of its victims are women whose rights under the law are often ignored. Now a unique legal aid programme is helping women like Maura Ntukamazina understand the law and reclaim their rights. We hear more on this story from Joanne Levitan at IFAD, the International Fund for Agricultural Development of the United Nations.
Women count for peace
Somali women came together on a Sunday in September for an “Open Day Partnerships for Peace” event. It was all part of a global programme to promote the idea that women are among the main victims of conflict, and should therefore be important participants in any peace process.
Former Somali refugees is winner of UN refugee agency's prize
A former Somali refugee has won the prestigious annual award of the UN refugee agency (UNHCR). Hawa Aden Mohamed is the winner of this year's Nansen Refugee Award, which is given to people or groups for their outstanding work to help refugees.
