General Assembly elects Serbia to occupy first seat
Listen /A painful era is now coming to an end for Serbia, a European country which was part of the former Yugoslavia, according to Vuc Jeremic, the newly elected President of the 67th General Assembly.
His tenure, says the former Foreign Minister, will mark the re-instatement of his country on the international scene. Twenty years ago, Serbia was left out of the chambers of the General Assembly as a result of the war, he adds.
Mr. Jeremic is the first Serb to preside over the main deliberative organ of the UN.
He told UN's Ari Gaitanis that his focus for the next 12 months would be to promote the peaceful resolution of disputes.
