For many people around the world who have suffered war crimes and crimes against humanity, The Hague represents hope.
Home to a number of international courts and institutions charged with promoting and protecting international peace and justice, it's also a place where countries come to settle their disputes.
Advancing the cause of justice and offering help to those in need has become part of the Dutch identity, Jozias van Aartsen, Mayor of The Hague, told UN Radio.
Speaking to Chiam Litewski at the 67th General Assembly, he explains how the international character of the "world's legal capital" is crucial to its success.
