A theatrical production has been staged in rural areas of Ethiopia to raise awareness about the dangers of using smugglers to escape from the country.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) says it is working with community leaders to educate local people about irregular migration.

IOM spokesman Jean Philippe Chauzy says the production called "Mutach" (The Last One) is currently touring areas where people are more likely to migrate from.

"It's a play tells the story of a father considering whether one of his daughters should basically be smuggled out of Ethiopia and his dilemma comes from the fact that he has had no news of two of his other daughters who left the village previously. It's a play that will reach about 50,000 people in rural areas. It's in Oromia, in Tigray in Amhara, the three main languages."

Duration: 22"

IOM says the play will also be staged in refugee camps hosting Eritreans in Northern Ethiopia.
